Char Aznable leads a final uprising with Neo Zeon and attempts to force humanity to evolve by sending a massive asteroid toward Earth. Amuro Ray and the Federation fleet have only a short time to stop him.

The film concludes the long-standing conflict between the two rivals from the original Gundam series. It is directed by the series creator, Yoshiyuki Tomino.

The story continues the plot after the TV series Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ in the so-called Universal Century. The film premiered in Japanese theaters in 1988.
